Albright Scholarship Program

Three Tehama County high school seniors will be heading off to college this fall with a little extra money for their education. Keeli Smith and Mauricio Tamaya Perez, both from Red Bluff High School and Judith Miranda Chavez from Corning High School all earned $1,000 Dennis D. Albright scholarships this spring. This scholarship program was established by the Dennis Albright family and TehamaTogether to honor the late Dennis Albright, a longtime local attorney and Tehama Together Board member who gave generously of his time and expertise to many Tehama County organizations. This competitive scholarship is awarded to students who excel academically, participate in numerous school activities, contribute to their community and plan to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering or math.

Keeli Smith has managed to maintain an impressive GPA while a member of
the varsity softball team for four years. She gives pitching lessons to younger
players and volunteers at the local hospital. She is headed to Sacramento State and plans to major in Heath Science and pursue a career as a traveling nurse.

Mauricio Tamaya Perez has balanced being an academic star and
participating in Track and Field and Cross County sports. He was a NASA
Astrobiology Student Intern and wants to work in architectural drawing or civil
engineering. He plans to attend Butte College and then Washington State
University.

Judith Miranda Chavez has excelled in her academic career while
participating in field hockey for four years, volunteering in various youth sportsand being involved in the California Scholarship Federation, student government,Interact Club and her church youth group. She has been accepted to both California State University, Chico and the University of California at Santa Barbara.Judith plans to study Chemistry or Biology and become an orthodontist.
